AWARDS AND CRITERIA
General guidance
As these are the World Quiz Awards, greater weight will be given in the shortlisting process to performances in competitions that are international in both the content and the competitors.
Individual Quiz Performance of the Year
Decided by: Public vote
Criteria: An award for an individual quizzer, for their performance in a single quiz or a single season of a quiz competition.
Tell us:
Who you are nominating
What was the performance?
What made the performance exceptional?
Considerations:
In the shortlisting process we will consider both the individual’s performance and the strength of the competition that they faced. Do not assume that we will be aware of the strength of the competition, particularly if a competition is local to a country.
World Quizzer of the Year
Decided by: Public vote
Criteria: An award for an individual quizzer, for their performances in 2023 across multiple quiz competitions.
Tell us:
Who you are nominating
What were the performances that we should know about?
What made the performance exceptional?
Considerations:
In the shortlisting process we will consider the individual’s performances and the strength of the competition that they faced in those competitions. Do not assume that we will be aware of the strength of the competition, particularly if a competition is local to a country.
World Quiz Team of the Year
Decided by: Public vote
Criteria: An award for a quiz team, for their performances in 2023 in one or multiple quiz competitions. A quiz team is defined as a team that is either assembled for a specific competition, or a group of people who play together in multiple competitions.
Tell us:
The team you are nominating
Who the team members were
What were the performances that we should know about?
What made the performances exceptional?
Considerations:
In the shortlisting process we will consider the team’s performances and the strength of the competition that they faced in those competitions. Do not assume that we will be aware of the strength of the competition, particularly if a competition is local to a country.
Quiz Competition of the Year
Decided by: Public vote
Criteria: An award for a competition that was held entirely in 2023, or came to its conclusion in 2023. For competitions that have multiple seasons within a year, nominations will be for the competition as a whole and not for specific seasons.
Tell us:
What competition you are nominating
A brief description of the format (e.g mimir, team competition, buzzer tournament etc)
What made the competition exceptional.
An online address for the competition where we can find out more information.
Considerations:
In the shortlisting process we will consider the competition’s format, structure, organisation, and the degree to which the content and the quizzers are international vs local. Competitions that are predominantly for quizzers from one country may be at a disadvantage in the shortlisting process.
Organisation of the Year
Decided by: Expert panel
Criteria: An award for a quiz organisation that has performed at an exceptionally high level in 2023.
Tell us:
What the organisation is.
A brief description of what the organisation does.
What makes the organisation exceptional
An online address for the organisation where we can find out more information
Considerations:
In the shortlisting process we will consider the scope and activities of the organisation. We will consider the degree to which the organisation is formally constituted with identifiable leaders, transparent decision making, governing documents, rules and processes. Organisations that do not appear to have a formal existence will be excluded from consideration.
Breakthrough quizzer
Decided by: Public vote
Criteria: An award for a quizzer who in 2023 has moved into the top tier of quizzers. Previous finalists are not eligible except in exceptional circumstances.
Tell us:
Who you are nominating
What were the performances that we should know about?
What made 2023 a breakthrough year for your nominee?
Considerations:
In the shortlisting process we will consider the extent to which this has been an unambiguously strong year of progression for the nominee.
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion award
Decided by: Expert panel
Criteria: An organisation, competition or individual who has made a significant contribution to making quizzing more fair, more diverse and more inclusive.
Tell us:
Who you are nominating
What they have done to merit the award
Considerations:
In the shortlisting progress we will consider the duration of EDI activities and the impact made.

Decided by: All Things Quiz members
Criteria: A person who has made a significant contribution to the quiz community but who does not have a high profile.
Tell us:
Who you are nominating
What they have done to merit the award
Considerations:
In the shortlisting progress we will consider the degree to which their contributions are not widely known. Note: Activities directly related to paid quiz employment are not eligible.
